Sunday Night Sittings, 6:30pm to 8:30pm
We practice in the tradition of Zen Buddhist monk, Thich Nhat Hanh. We are peer-facilitated and volunteer run, without a formal teacher or leader. We generally meet every Sunday, including holidays. Any (rare) cancellations will be announced on the home page of this website, as well as on our email listserve and Facebook page (click here for more info.) Generally, one may expect some combination of:
- Mindful Stretching
- Sitting Meditation
- Walking Meditation
- Mindful Tea
- Dharma Reading or Study
- Community Sharing
Beginners and newcomers are welcome. We operate on a drop-in, optional-donation basis, and we strive to be accessible for all.
*** LOCATION UPDATE: December 3, 2015 ****
***Our meditation group will return to 251 East 11th Ave.***
We are thankful to the nuns of Gold Buddha Monastery for inviting our Sangha to practice in their monastery for a 4 week trail period. Several of our sangha members commented on the positive energy of the setting. Unfortunately, the nuns have not extended the invitation for us to continue to practice at the monastery. Their concern was that the monastery is large with many rooms and it’s a bit roundabout to get to the area where we do our practice, and they are concerned about security, as the monastery is their home. We understand and respect their decision.
So starting this Sunday (December 5, 2015) we will be practicing again at Building Caring Communities (BCC) at 251 East 11th Avenue in Vancouver (across from Gold Buddha Monastery) . BCC is also a lovely space to practice in. However, we are not able to store our cushions there so we have had to be creative setting up for our meditations.
Please bring your own sitting meditation supplies (mats, cushions pillows etc) if you are able to.
If anyone has ideas for a new location for the Mindfulness Practice Community of Vancouver please let us know. Thanks.
After the sitting, we sometimes enjoy an informal meal together at a nearby restaurant.
